Newsletter
No. 232 23rd April 2008
Thursday 24th=
April
Please don’t forg=
et
that the only class expected in school tomorrow is Class 3 due to the NUT
strike.
Sports Day
We will soon be able to let you know which day your
child will be taking part in our Sports events. It will either be June 26th
or June 27th (weather willing). All the children are put in mixed
year teams and siblings are put together so you don’t have to come tw=
ice.
As soon as the lists are ready we’ll send a copy home.
School Garden
We’re really plea=
sed that
the 2litre empty plastic bottles are still being brought into school for our
greenhouse. We haven’t counted them yet but we must be getting very n=
ear
to our target of 1,500! Please keep bringing them in and drop them off in t=
he
bags in the school entrance. Soon we will be asking for more help to put th=
em
together.
If you have any spare
household bricks you no longer require our garden needs them! We are happy =
to
re-use any colour or design of brick. Please bring your bricks to the entra=
nce
and place in a box near the plastic bottles. Thank you once again for your
support.
Year 2 Preparing for Ye=
ar 3
It is about this time of
year when we start preparing our Y2 children for Y3. Part of this preparati=
on
is being ready for the difference between ‘drop off’ in the
mornings at the Infants and the Juniors.
We like to encourage the
children to practice saying goodbye to their parents quite quickly and then
leaving them in the classroom or the yard (when supervised) to help settle =
in
more independently. If we start this now it helps them later on.
Between now and the end=
of
term the Y2 children who are going to Nether Green Junior School will visit the school with their
teachers on many occasions and the Junior School Y3 teachers come here to s=
ee
the children in their classes.
We are aware of many
changes the Y2 children face in Y3 but we are always pleased to hear from
parents who have already gone through the key stage change and things their
children or the parents have noticed.
The Y2 teachers have a
transition meeting with the Juniors in a couple of weeks so please let any =
of
the Y2 staff or Miss Ball know of anything which may help the children to
prepare for Y3.
Staff Professional Development
Wednesday 30th April pm – Mrs Wig=
ley
and Mrs Wyatt on Communication, Language & Literacy Development Course.=
Miss Tattersfield teaching Class 4.
Mrs Bagshaw teaching Class 7.
Community Governor
Thank you to Peter Hodgson for all his hard work a=
nd
commitment as a Community Governor in our school over the last 4 years. We =
will
miss the enthusiasm he has shown for helping both children and staff in our
school.
This now leaves a vacancy for a community governor=
in
our school. If you or you know anybody who would be interested in helping o=
ur
school in this way please contact Miss Ball or any governor.
Sponsored Bounce
Thank you to the PTA for organising the sponsored
bounce today. The children have really enjoyed their visits to the hall to =
have
a bounce! It has also inspired some marvellous writing in the classroom.
Please don’t forget to return you sponsorship
form as soon as you have collected sponsorship money. Thank you.
Tuesday 29th
April

grapes are all provided free of charge. Pre-school children welcome. It wou=
ld
be lovely to see you there.
